We are a small, family kennel located in South Central Wisconsin, with a mission to provide exceptional, chocolate pointing lab puppies. Da-Koda High was chosen for our name to honor “Danner”, who made us believe, “Koda”, our sequel to Danner, and High for my/our love of flying.
We should mention, we are small, and want to remain small. We produce only two or three litters a year, and strive for them to be special. We are a licensed
Wisconsin Dog Dealer or Breeder #524962
We’ve watched awesome pointing labs of all three colors, but chocolates are just our passion. Through the attendance of hunt tests watching dogs, and networking with and heeding advice from owners who hunt their pointing chocolates, we have started our venture with two males, Koda and Tango, and one female, Sierra, all with natural point throughout their pedigrees, top to bottom. A second female, Zulu, has been kept out of our first litter. We have all of our dogs split time between nice clean kennels, outdoors and in the house. All have definite on/off switches. We will not breed dilute factored Labradors, or sell puppies to those who do. PERIOD. Purebred Labs are Black, Yellow and Chocolate. PERIOD again.
We take great care and pride in our Chocolate Labradors and litters. We have been very choosy on our pedigrees, building our kennel with puppies that come from proven “natural” pointing lineage. Our dogs and puppies are very special to us, and we are certain, will be special for you. We invest a lot of time in planning, what we feel, are quality litters. We then put a lot of time and love into each new puppy, including socialization with humans, children, and our adult dogs; veterinarian provided health care and dew claw removal; and micro-chipping before delivery to you with full vet visit records. You will find we are different. Our puppies are not commodities. Our puppies are part of us throughout their entire life. We care. We are certain that you will get an exceptional pointing chocolate Labrador puppy, ready for your home, and eager to learn in the field. We’ll inquire occasionally on progress and are hopeful that we may get the chance to cross paths someday and see them again.
DANNER
Once upon a time, I bought a dog. I ran across a website that had "Pointing Chocolate Labs" late in the summer of 2002. Interesting I thought, and a trip to western Kansas was in order to get a puppy. On the trip home in our motorhome, he took a nap with his little head in my boot that was sitting on the floor. That instant, he earned his name Danner.
Early in Danner's life he showed more than signs of greatness, so much so that I looked into professional training. I stumbled on to Gun Club Labs and inquired about sending him for training. My wife resisted, and I was content in having a wonderful, talented dog. Steady to shot and fall at six months old, with only a dummy like me doing some retrieving training and whoa work on a table. He just had it. I knew nothing about the American Pointing Labrador Association. In fact, only learned of the APLA after his passing, and considering getting another dog. Knowing what I know now, I can only imagine what he could have been. I have no regrets, as he provided me with many phenomenal hunting moments, was my best friend and companion, and provided happiness and comfort to anyone he spent time with.
Danner is the reason I do what I do today. I think it is because of Danner that my wife Cathy stands with me in this endeavor. I know he is eternally with me, but also pretty sure he has helped "Koda" (meaning the sequel) through his experiences.
We have come full circle. Koda was only the new beginning. Becoming involved with the APLA has introduced us to many new and awesome friends, professional trainers and amateurs alike. It is kind of crazy to us how it has all worked out! Since, four more talented brown dogs, and one tri-factored black female have become part of our "family" too!
The journey continues. Thank you Danner. You made believers of us, and I think of you every single day.
JUST A DOG
From time to time, people tell me, "lighten up, it's just a dog," or "that's a lot of money for just a dog." They don't understand the distance traveled, the time spent, or the costs involved for "just a dog."
Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a dog." Many hours have passed and my only company was "just a dog," but I did not once feel slighted.
Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by "just a dog," and in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "just a dog" gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.
If you, too, think it's "just a dog," then you will probably understand phrases like "just a friend," "just a sunrise," or "just a promise."
"Just a dog" brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure and unbridled joy.
"Just a dog" brings out the compassion and patience that makes me a better person.
Because of "just a dog," I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future. So for me and folks like me, it's not "just a dog" but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past, and the pure joy of the moment.
I hope that someday they can understand that it's not "just a dog," but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being "just a woman."
So the next time you hear the phrase "just a dog," just smile--because they "just don't understand."
